No news is good news I guess. We're still learning new
songs, for whatever that's worth. Actually the stuff
we're learning is much better suited for us and our age.
I think we're going to be a much better band for it. That
being said, the well has sorta run dry a bit in Indy, and
we haven't played as much. We contemplated calling it a
career, and still may. But at the same time, why not just
play when we can and not make a big deal out of it? So
what if it's 10 times a year? It's still FUN for us, no
matter what. And it's not really a waste of time if you
enjoy it and get paid for it right? I guess it's our own
pride that is effected the most. We get asked all the
time, "Are you guys still playing?". We just say "yep,
we're playing a little bit here and there. just having
fun". Things were a lot better when we played four times
a month though! But the economic times has been tough on
some clubs, and the places to play have thinned out.
Unless of course you're a dance band with two or three
girls singing lead vocals. Apparently you can play all
you want if that is the case! We would rather not play at
all, or ever again, if it meant playing Madonna songs all
the time. We all like to make a buck... but we have our
limits! The way I look at it, is that everything always
has a way to come full circle. Eventually people are
going to want to rock again... and that's where we'll
swoop in, primed and ready!

I recently changed our Myspace URL to
myspace.com/punchjudyband. They just came out with
"email" and when I typed in /punchjudyband, it changed
our URL too. I didn't realize it was going to do that,
but it did. No biggie.

On Thursday Sept 10th we will be at the Rathskeller, in
the Biergarten, for a special Q-95 Jimmy "Mad Dog" Matis
broadcast from 5-7. Because Aerosmith had to cancel their
tour, their opener ZZTop has decided to book a string of
dates themselves, and will be playing across the street
at the Murat. So Q95 is going to broadcast at the
Rathskeller, and it WILL BE a KILLER time! Usually
Thurdsay nights at the Rath are "acoustic duo" night. But
for this event, they wanted the full band. Now who could
refuse that!? So, we're really looking forward to it, and
with any luck, we may even have a couple new songs for ya
that night as well.
We played our new songs the other night for the very
first time live, and they were extremely well received.
The band has never sounded so good! We'll get tighter and
tighter the more we do them too. And Jason will no longer
have to fumble the lyrics to "I'm Yours". HA!! What a
tool!
Hope to see you all on Sept 10th!
(And don't forget... we'll be playing Sept 11th &
12th at the Fairground for Oktoberfest!

Just a quick note to let you all know of what is going on
in the world of Punch Judy. We have learned some new
material and will be hopefully performing it Friday Aug
28th at the Rathskeller. Anyway.. the songs we have
learned are:
Jason Mraz - I'm Yours
U2 - Vertigo
O.A.R - Shattered (Turn the Car Around)
3 Doors Down - It's Not My Time
Kings of Leon - Sex is On Fire
Kings of Leon - Use Somebody
and possibly:
Seether - Rise Above This
Theory of a Deadman - Not Meant To Be
After this batch of songs, we have another 8 or so we'll
learn, etc, etc. We'd like to learn about 25 new songs,
which is nearly two full sets of new material! Mostly
more modern rock "hits". We already to a lot of "classic
hits", and it's time we do some modern stuff. The problem
with modern stuff, is it's usually here today and gone
tomorrow. You have to constantly learn material. But with
the "Classics", it's timeless, but played to death. We're
looking to inject some new life into the band so that
it's more fun for everyone, especially us!
We also bought some new subwoofers and will soon be
working on adding more lighting. We also are going to add
a couple effect processors for the vocals and drums. We
need it. Punch has been going strong for 16 years, and
the older we get, the busier our lives become. We all
have jobs, families, children, etc... so it becomes much
harder to focus your energy on the band. But we've been
on auto-pilot for long enuff, and we are all motivated to
"return to form"... that being the best rock band in
town! So stay tuned!
